I have this crazy dream... to build a business that's free to push the boundaries, free of debt so that innovation can be at the fore front. I keep hearing it though, "You need debt to start a business," "Wouldn't it just be easier to have a huge investor?" For some businesses maybe, but Velodrome is not the next standard coffee company, it's going to be wildly different right from the start. I believe there's a different way to drink coffee, with full traceability and transparency, and I believe people want that. So...we're doing something different here, we're going to try and build this dream on profits and only make business decisions that maintain the freedom of Velodrome to innovate and pivot anytime we need to.
If you believe in any that, consider giving us a shot. I'm not asking for a donation, I'm asking you to preorder a bag of coffee and test us. See if it's different, see if it changes the way you drink coffee.
Yes, I'm going to be that annoying business owner that always posts about their business on their personal FB page, but when you believe so strongly about what you do - it's hard to see where business and personal life separate.
I know someone of you reading this are thinking it, it's alright, I've already heard that this will never work, that's ok. I can replay in my mind each time I'm told this will fail, I think about it daily and it drives me. To me the fear of failure is strangely comforting... it means you're stepping out, you're assuming risk. That's what changing the game is all about. .
