As I write this, I’m sitting at the birth center, waiting on a baby. It was a long night. And I’m admittedly a little tired.
But right at this very moment in my life, right now, today, there’s not anywhere else I’d rather be, or anything different I’d rather be doing- today, or this weekend, or at this point in my life.
I do have desires beyond midwifery though. I’ve always said this and feel it within me. I know that someday, I won’t be a midwife.
I’m a part of various “minimalist” and travel groups on Facebook, and in one of them, someone announced that soon her and her family (a husband and small children) will be heading off to travel the world. They are selling all of their material possessions and have spent the last few years aligning and readying their life so that they may do this.
And what do some of the people comment and ask? “How lucky for you to have such an opportunity!” “How do normal people afford to do this?” “How exactly will you afford it?!” And I wonder to myself, why do we have this mindset?
It’s not an opportunity. Well, it’s an opportunity that they have CREATED! The world and their lives didn’t just happen to align such that they could quit their 9-5s and travel the world indefinitely as a family of 5.
And the idea of working a 40+ hour a week 9-5 (or worse) job is considered so normal, that people can’t get their mind around how a normal family could manage to NOT have to be in one place and hold a typical job.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t believe we were created to spend so much time away from our family.
This is one of the reasons why I love being a business owner, & more so why I love Young Living. But that’s a different post. 😉
Seeing that post this morning just reminded me that things (usually) don’t just fall into our laps. Random opportunity is great, but usually it’s opportunity that we have aligned ourselves to, based on our previous actions.
We have to have the vision, do the work, and take the chances. So what’s your vision? What’s your ultimate goal?
Are you working with that end goal in mind and creating your life to make it a reality?
