Why PT: Growing up under the extreme circumstances of homelessness and transitioning into foster care will always be a part of me. Having those experiences led me to my passion for track and field and landed me at Cal Poly Pomona where I had learned first hand how mentors and coaches can change your life and set you on the journey to success. They gave me hope when I needed it most. I feel that a Physical Therapist instils the same concept of hope and motivation into patients in their time of need. ◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️
Community influence: There is a passion that develops when working alongside the different professions that take part in the rehabilitation process of a patient. ◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️
When I am a Physical Therapist it is a personal goal of mine to give back to the communities that have guided me, inspire others with my story of resilience and adversity and make a difference.

Mich specifically wanted to be highlighted in the month of May for foster care awareness month. He currently does work through Cal Poly Pomona, The Children’s House, Friend’s of Foster Children, and many more to help those in need. ◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️◾️

Jessica Goytizolo (DPT ‘20), a PTMLA scholarship recipient and first year representative, will be the PTMLA president next year.
.
“PTMLA will always have a special place in my heart. I love being a part of it and I am excited to lead a new group of students into an eventful year full of new opportunities to expand awareness of physical therapy as a career and encourage minorities to pursue their dream education. I was honored to receive this scholarship, especially because it matched my interests in promoting multicultural leadership in the physical therapy community. It has opened so many doors for me and allowed me to be a part of so many amazing experiences. I am very excited to see what the future of this organization holds!”

Commencement 2018: NFL QB attests to the power of physical therapists to change lives
.
“I have learned firsthand the value physical therapists can bring into someone’s life,” said NFL quarterback Matt Barkley, who spoke at this year’s USC Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy’s commencement ceremony. “I am able to pursue my dream of playing football because of the work of physical therapists.”
.
Before joining the NFL, Barkley was a four-year starting USC Trojans quarterback, setting records for single-game completions, passing yards and touchdown passes.
.
During his final year at USC, he suffered a shoulder separation injury, which ended his college football career. It was USC physical therapy faculty and alumni whose treatment helped the fallen player get back in the game.
.
“Yours is a calling of significance and a blessing to those you care for,” Barkley said of the profession. “Congratulations on your many achievements both in and out of the classroom.”
.
In total, the USC Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy conferred 91 doctor of physical therapy, six doctor of philosophy and seven master of science degrees.
