Remember this old guy? I’ve finally completed restoring it ❤️
Initially when I started sanding it, I found out that it was not solid wood as the seller assured me it was grr. And that white paint was crazy stubborn to remove, even with paint stripper. So, frustrated with the whole thing, I left it for the last few months. It stayed outside and became my workbench.
Now that I’ve sold the boys’ desk, I decided to go back to this and see if I could salvage it to use as their desk.
They boys chose navy. The colour i ended up with from Bunnings was too light. So I did some mixing with paints I already had and added some plaster of Paris so it was more like chalkpaint.
The plaster must not have dissolved completely so it ended up with a speckled finish which I kind of love ❤️
I was planning to decoupage the outside of the drawers but found out by accident that they were solid wood under a veneer. So I peeled off the veneer and was able to restore them to a beautiful wooden finish. I used my trusty shoe polish to get a nice colour on them.
And the drawer pulls were made using a belt from Kmart!
Photos don’t really do it justice but what do you think?
