Marking #tonkatuesday with this engineless but otherwise superb looking Panavia Tornado F3, serial number ZE887. The airframe was built in 1988 and served as a trials jet with the Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment before transfer to No. 229 OCU (the F3 Operational Conversion Unit) the following year. ZE887 was deployed to Dhahran during the 1991 Gulf War, flying combat air patrols during the conflict. She was prolific on the 2008 airshow circuit as the No. 43 (Fighter) Squadron special, acquiring the black spine and tail fin she wears today. In this guise she sports the “Fighting Cocks” lettering and tail code GF - which stands for the squadron motto Gloria Finis (Glory Is The End) and was reserved for the CO’s personal aircraft. ZE887 last flew on 4 March 2010, total airframe hours: 4,966.40. She arrived at the @rafmuseum Hendon later that year. 🇬🇧 #aviation #aviationlovers #aviationlover #aviationinstagram #aviationphotos #aviationgeek #aircraft #aircraftspotting #aircraftlovers #planes #planefan #planelovers #planefans #airplanes #planespotter #planespotting #avgeek #avgeeks #instagramaviation #militaryaviation #militaryaircraft #warplanes #aviationporn #panaviatornado #tornadof3 #rafmuseum #fightingcocks #fighteraircraft

It’s #tonkatuesday again and here’s ZA362, one of only a handful of Panavia Tornado strike jets to be preserved. She was completely stripped when she arrived at the Highland Aviation Museum, Inverness, and has been slowly rebuilt using parts sourced from other airframes, including the tail fin of a former 617 Squadron GR1B anti-shipping variant (coded AJ-F). ZA362 is an early Tornado GR1(T) trainer that entered service in April 1981 with the Tri-National Tornado Training Establishment (TTTE) at RAF Cottesmore and ended her flying days with No. 15 Squadron at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray. She then became a GIA prior to disposal. 🇬🇧 #aviation #aviationlovers #aviationlover #aviationinstagram #aviationphotos #aviationgeek #aircraft #aircraftspotting #aircraftlovers #planes #planefan #planelovers #planefans #airplanes #planespotter #planespotting #avgeek #avgeeks #instagramaviation #militaryaviation #militaryaircraft #warplanes #aviationporn #highlandaviationmuseum #panaviatornado #trinationaltornadotrainingestablishment #ttte #aviationmuseum #bombers

Marking #tonkatuesday with one of the best looking Tonkas around! The town of Knutsford, Cheshire, is home to Tornado GR1B ZA399, which was built in 1982 and relegated to ground instruction at Cosford in 2001, having not been selected for mid-life upgrade to GR4 status. A veteran of the 1991 Gulf War, ZA399 flew high risk combat ops as part of Operation Granby. She was known as “Granny” during the conflict. After returning to Europe ZA399 was updated to GR1B status, replacing the ageing Buccaneer in the maritime strike role. Eventually put up for disposal, the mighty Tornado was restored by @jetartaviation in the colours of No. 617 “Dambusters” Squadron and sold to a private owner in 2013. The good people at Oliver Valves Ltd kindly let me take a look! 👍🏻🇬🇧 #aviation #aviationlovers #aviationlover #aviationinstagram #aviationphotos #aviationgeek #aircraft #aircraftspotting #aircraftlovers #planes #planefan #planelovers #planefans #airplanes #planespotter #planespotting #avgeek #avgeeks #instagramaviation #militaryaviation #militaryaircraft #warplanes #aviationporn #panaviatornado #tornado #knutsford #617squadron #gulfwar

Marking #tonkatuesday with XZ631, the Tornado GR4 prototype and one of several early pre-production MRCA airframes built by Panavia during the late 1970s. This Tonka spent her service life as a test and evaluation airframe, first taking to the air in November 1978 and withdrawn from use on 21 June 2004. XZ631 is now preserved at the Yorkshire Air Museum in Elvington near York, where she’s painted in the light grey camouflage of the current Tornado GR4 fleet. 🇬🇧 #aviation #aviationlovers #aviationlover #aviationinstagram #aviationphotos #aviationgeek #aircraft #aircraftspotting #aircraftlovers #planes #planefan #planelovers #planefans #airplanes #planespotter #planespotting #avgeek #avgeeks #instagramaviation #militaryaviation #militaryaircraft #warplanes #aviationporn #tornadogr4 #panaviatornado #aviationmuseum @yorkshireairmuseum #tornado #elvington

What happens when a Tiny is in big trouble? #tinytakes #tonkatuesday

Preserved at the National Museum of Flight at East Fortune, Scotland, Panavia Tornado F3 ZE934 first took to the skies in 1989 and flew combat air patrols from Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War (1991). Despite her combat history, ZE934 is actually a trainer, configured with a second stick in the rear cockpit. All Tornado F3s (twin-stickers included) were combat capable, however, so perhaps this jet was one of the more reliable in the fleet! If you know why trainers were deployed on ops (air-to-air refuelling practice perhaps?) please let us know! 🇬🇧 #aviation #aviationlovers #aviationlover #aviationinstagram #aviationphotos #aviationgeek #aircraft #aircraftspotting #aircraftlovers #planes #planefan #planelovers #planefans #airplanes #planespotter #planespotting #avgeek #avgeeks #instagramaviation #militaryaircraft #militaryaviation #planeporn #aircraftporn #panaviatornado #tornadof3 #eastfortune #nationalmuseumofflight #aviationmuseum #tonkatuesday #warplane
