"Do you not know death when you see it? Die now and curse in vain."
...and in that very moment, away behind in some courtyard of the city, a cock crowed...welcoming only the morning that in the sky far above the shadows of death was coming with the dawn. And as if in answer there came from far away another note. Horns, horns, horns...great horns of the North wildly blowing. Rohan had come.

"Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden! Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now!"

Hello my friends! Today's #MiddleEarthMarch prompt is Gondor vs Rohan and I actually think this is the first prompt so far that gave me no trouble in deciding, I'll always be a Rohirrim at heart. If we're talking who would win in a battle, Gondor is undoubtedly more Mighty and superior in a myriad of ways, but I'm not considering this from that aspect, I'm just stating which I prefer!

I think it's largely to do with the fact that they're essentially the 'peasants' of Middle Earth - my favourite insult coming from Saruman in the extended edition of The Return of the King film: "What is the house of Rohan but a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek and rats roll on the floor with the dogs? The victory at Helm's Deep does not belong to you, Théoden Horse-Master! You are a lesser son of greater sires." - they're almost always considered lesser than the Gondorians in every way, yet it was the bravery and sacrifice of the Rohirrim who not only changed the tide of the Battle of Minas Tirith, but during previous invasions of Gondor. I've always been a fan of the under-dog. Not to mention so many of the coolest characters in the whole legendarium are inhabitants of Rohan - most importantly the most badass character of all, Éowyn.

FORTH ÉORLINGAS!

Rohan, my lord, is my pick for today's query. Gondor is amazing in its own way. Minas Tirith is imposing and magnificent, Ithilien is about as lovely a place as they come, at least in the world of men... But ROHAN, guys. This place is it. Sure, it might be a bit desolate at the time of the story, but the people! The scenery! Meduseld! Horses galore! Rohan has this delicious Norse vibe and such a vibrant culture. So as wonderfully rich in history as both places are, particularly Gondor as far as the story of the ring goes, this one is a no-brainer for me. Forth Eorlingas! 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎

Day 22: Gondor v Rohan

If I was a human living in Middle-earth I think I'd live in Minas Tirith. I love the history and the kings and the White City, with the line of kings firmly reestablished in the Fourth Age under the rule of Elessar, it would be a good place to live. However. In the real world, the moment we entered Rohan in The Two Towers, I was in love. There is something about the Rohirrim that instantly endeared itself to me. Eomer, Eowyn and Theoden are incredible characters. Helm's Deep chills me to bone every time I watch the battle, their arrival at Pelennor Fields brings me to tears. I just freaking love Rohan, and I don't know why. Perhaps because we spend so much time with them, compared to Gondorians? Are we biased against Gondor because of the actions of Boromir and Denethor? Or is Theoden just a real underdog who's been beaten and defeated so much that we feel his sorrow and pain? I don't know. But I do love them

The Lament for the Rohirrim in the book is recited by Aragorn, in the film, it is used so powerfully for Theoden as he prepares for battle (one of my favourite scenes)

"Where now are the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the harp on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.
Who shall gather the smoke of the deadwood burning,
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?"
(How did it come to this *goosebumps*) •

Middle-Earth March: Day 22 - Gondor vs. Rohan .
I choose Rohan because I'd rather live there than in Gondor. Also it would be fun to ride a horse every day. Strange that I barely have any Rohan merch tho 🐎 Shame on me 🙈 #middleearthmarch #tolkien #lordoftherings #rohan #theoden #bookstagram

Hahahaha me 😂😐💖
