On Tuesday, 29th January, 1974 the Limerick Chronicle announced that the Royal Cinema would be the final venue in Ireland to present Francis Ford Coppola's 'The Godfather'. The cinema seated 600 and was located in the city centre. It closed as a cinema in 1985 with 'Beverly Hills Cop II' as it's filmic swan song before reopening briefly in the 90s as a music venue playing host to the likes of The Cranberries.
