KONA recap contd ! 😋
Run (42.2km) 🏃♀️ - The run, oh the run. It takes place in the heat of the day and I knew it would be easy to blow up if I didn’t manage my nutrition and energy properly. So I focused on one goal only - to get to the finish line with a smile! The first 10km went by quickly because it was along Ali’i Drive lined with spectators, including my family and friends and Smashfestqueen team. After lots of high fives, smiles, videos and cheers, I was off to the desolate and unshaded Queen K for a pretty lonely 30km run out to the Energy Lab and back. This section of the Queen K goes on and on and it’s so hilly. A true test of the mind, you go up one hill praying that’s the last one but it just keeps going and going - no mercy! It was also extremely hot, but thankfully for me, coming from Singapore, I knew how to manage it. I focused on getting to each aid station, stuffing a cup of ice in the bra, in the pants, in the hat, and holding a cup of ice in each hand ! I was cold as a snowman and looked ridiculous in my pictures but it got me through! Soon I was exiting the energy lab, with 12km to go and it was a countdown to the finish line!
The whole day, I didn’t look at my watch or the pace because I just wanted to focus on enjoying the course and being in the moment. But with 10km to go, I dared to look at my watch, and after doing some quick math, I realize I could actually hit a sub 11hrs timing and reach the finish line before the sunset! Motivation was strong at that point and I sprinted down all the downhills I could, blasted through the aid stations. Cmon! I had a finish line to catch and family was waiting woohooo!! Run time 3hr59min
