How Do I #Tame My #Hamster - Part 2
In the past year, I’ve received numerous messages asking me how do I tame my hamsters? How did you manage to get Bacon to #calm down in 3 days. So instead of typing the same #answer to #different people every single time, I will just write this #post.
Please note these are just my own #opinions and #methods, it’s not a vet’s #guide or any #professional #article. I’m simply just writing down what I do, so feel free to #disagree or leave #comments to tell everyone your different taming methods.
4. #Treats Are Only For #Play Time
During taming stage, you can always use the treats they like as a #reward when they are doing something good, i.e., being very calm, stop biting you, stop chewing things.
During taming stage, please remember only give them treats during play time with you, don’t leave any treats in the cage before they are fully tamed, only give them #necessary #food and water in the cage.
I know it’s hard to resist their #cute little faces, but it’s necessary if you want your hamster to understand playing time with you is a reward in treat form first.
5. We All Love #Massages
After you wear them out, they are likely to start to take a #nap probably on your couch or bed. At that time, my way of doing it is to offer them constant #gentle massages.
Every hamster’s likes / #dislikes when it comes to massages are different. That’s something you need to figure it out yourself by trying.
Gentle massages are very #soothing and #effective when it comes to calm animals down, including human of course.
6. Every Ham Is Different
Some hamsters like being hold, while others don’t. It’s something in their #personalities and probably you can’t #change.
Cheese always loved to #sleep on my hand, while Ham is only happy to sleep on a comfy #cushion but she still loves a good massage.
So don’t try to force your hamster to stay still on your hand right from the beginning. Always build up enough #trust and bond first then try.
And if they don’t, let them be.
