In other creative professions, for instance... graphic design. I've observed ethical designers do not criticize the work of their counterparts, but instead analyze design and offer constructive and/or artistic feedback, however in performing arts, we are naturally inclined to judge vs merely observe.
Note, we are all on our unique paths and deserve to thrive in a community of like minded individuals who exemplify our creative standards and tastes. It is equally important, to honor our differences and encourage our individuality. If you only danced with people who dance like you, only ate with people who look like you, or only offered compassion and understanding to those who are a reflection of you, that is no type of art at all. That is ego, in my opinion, not art. Art is subjective but please do not subject others to linear creativity or refuse to honor where an artist may be along their journey.
It is our duty as a creative community to uplift each other and celebrate our differences.
I love our sac town community and see it thriving. I respect my hip hop community as much as my musical theatre and concert dance community and that even includes my Latin and ballroom friends.
I see you all and want you to know, I appreciate all of your unique and meaningful creations no matter what capacity you are at today.
I honor you today for being fearlessly you!
Now, go create something magical as only you can!
