Ramsgate Live Export Protest - 20.08.18.
Images of the day.

We saw 5 lorries come through yesterday, all of which had the usual, drinkers not working, sheep with very snotty noses (on the same vehicle that had this problem last week, so where is he getting the animals from?), obliterated number plate, questionable head room etc.

You will be pleased to know, that this year they are down once again on numbers. Last year, there were 34 lorries all year and 28 of those were for Eid. This year, there has been, up to now, 23 lorries all year with 17 in this last ten days for the Eid festival. Well down, so you are making a difference and it's one we can all see. We now await Mr Gove!

Last Saturday when another ship arrived after 5 days at Sea in Haifa and the journey was about to be over, The Ministry of Agriculture decided to wait. For 20 more hours, thousands of lambs remained trapped inside the ship, in enormous density, which did not allow everyone to reach the food and water.

They arrived yesterday in Israel. Look them in the eyes. Please be compassionate next week at the Eid el-Adha. Give to charity instead and leave babies off your plate.

Sieg für die Tiere! Indien verbietet Lebendtransporte.

This week, India committed to ending the live export trade, recognising the unnecessary suffering inflicted upon the animals we use for food.

This could not have happened without the unprecedented public outcry and media attention dedicated to revealing the plight of these animals. To all those who spoke out, thank you.

Dr. Lynn Simpson is one of those who risked her career to speak out against the cruelty of the live export industry. Her voice has inspired many around the world and helped drive the movement to end live animal exports.

Thank you India! 🙏💜

BREAKING: The Indian government has put an indefinite ban on all livestock exports due to public pressure and the tireless efforts of animal advocates. This positive news brings us one step closer towards ending this cruel industry!
.
“There were many complaints and representations from those advocating compassion towards all living beings and animal rights activists. Therefore, we have decided to impose a blanket ban on export of livestock from all sea ports." - Union Minister of State for Shipping, Mansukh Mandaviya (via @indianexpress)
.
Until now, live exports in India mainly comprised of sheep and goats, destined for the United Arab Emirates and Nepal.
.
Live export is big business. Animals are being transported across the world to meet the rising demand for meat. These individuals arrive at their destinations after several weeks on board ships and in trucks. Conditions are filthy and cramped. Many are unable to reach water and food and will die from heat stress. The suffering in this industry is inherent. It needs to end.
.
India is showing the world that it doesn't need to be this way.

This was yesterday at the Cork Pig Save Vigil. This truck was stopped for a few seconds, before we were pushed away by security.

This is how powerful bearing witness is. It has the potential to make such a huge difference, that slaughterhouses would rather hire security to manhandle people, than let us bear witness.
