MEASURING YOUR BODY FAT %
(On today’s dexa I came out at 18% BF)

So, I’m currently sat in a service station working after having a dexa scan today as part of @beth.wilson__ dissertation research.
What does a dexa scan tell you? 🤔
👉🏻 It measures your overall body fat %
👉🏻 The quantity of fat free mass you are carrying (overall and in different areas of your body).
👉🏻 The quantity of fat mass you are carrying (overall and in different areas of your body).
Why do I care about this information?
I am going to be having a dexa scan at 4-6 weekly intervals throughout my prep for my next competition 👙 I’m currently 17.5 weeks out. I don’t really care what numbers the scan produces, what interests me is how they change throughout the process!☺️
Ideally throughout a competition prep, we want to maintain as much lean muscle tissue as possible whilst getting extremely lean 💪🏻🍑 so game on, let’s see what we can do 😈
In my opinion you should not aim for a specific body fat %, that’s not necessarily healthy and everyone is different...what looks good on someone else might not be appropriate, or look good on you. Also, there are a lot of very inaccurate body fat calculators dotted around gyms etc..so I wouldn’t advise using those. A dexa scan is much more accurate but not as accessible...
As a general population client I would advise just going off pictures, measurements, the way you feel, the way your clothes fit and your scale weight...I wouldn’t say it is really relevant for everyone to know what their body fat % is, because why does it matter if you feel and look great?
I have had this done purely for research purposes 🤓 because I’m a geek. I’m going to do quite an in depth YouTube video talking through all of this, so hit me up if you have any questions at all!! 💞
