My digital painting using a reference photo from Hubble of a small portion of Messier 27. M27 was the first planetary nebula ever discorvered, by Charles Messier in 1764. NASA says "The term “planetary nebula” is a bit of a misnomer based on the nebula’s round, planet-like appearance when viewed through smaller telescopes." And my favourite line, "The nebula is the result of an old star that has shed its outer layers in a glowing display of color." (#mood) "Blue represents oxygen, green represents hydrogen, and red indicates sulfur and nitrogen." Painting this was seriously fun! It's not exactly accurate enough to use as a map on your exploratory space expeditions, but it ain't far off 👽 painted while listening to "space themed" classical music and meditation soundtracks made using the same frequency the universe emits. Not a bad way to get lost.
