Small victories matter. I completed my PG in HR ( focusing on training and enrichment) (distance education) and passed with decent marks (77%) and that is what we were busy celebrating over the weekend.
It is important to keep working on ourselves. For me it meant to train myself in what I want to do next... As a part of the many things I am doing to prep for the next professional stint of mine.. (what..? I still have career goals.. They are just not immediate) I took up a 1 year course. I went through assignments, exams... Finals... This last semester I gave all my 5 final exams in one day.. Back to back... Morning to evening...it is nothing like what it was studying back in school or college. It was self driven and needed lots and lots of help and support from others.
I may be gloating a little... The course really is not rocket science. If I can clear it.. Anybody out there can clear it, believe me. But the joy of setting a target and achieving it for yourself is amazing.
It's okay to do something just for your own self even after you become a parent... Studying, working, reading, writing, eating, unwinding, shopping or even partying!! It's okay to be the center of your world every now and then for fun or for fulfilment or maybe just for some peace of mind. It's great for you. It's healthy... It's many things...and selfish isn't one of them.
I for one think my parenting skills and traits like multi-tasking, planning, perseverance etc have helped a lot in seeing this little me-project through.
You are a parent TO YOUR CHILD but you are also a person...someone TO YOURSELF. You owe yourself time, care, growth and also... indulgence. Or Atleast that is how I see it.
