Just a quick post on the importance of not neglecting the fundamentals. Dips are certainly one of those fundamental movements, almost like squats for the upper body.
At whatever level of training you are, the basics are key. Get the basic skills done before moving on to complex movements and continue maintaining the basics once you've mastered them.
