Here are my Top 5 PG prospects for the 2019 NBA Draft! Remember, this is a prospects ranking. I’m not ranking the best PG’s in college.⁣
⁣
Darius Garland: ⁣
Garland is my #1 PG in this class due to his ability to facilitate an offense, while also providing craft scoring. However, Garland desperately needs to gain muscle (170 lbs) and isn’t an overly explosive athlete.⁣
⁣
Tre Jones: ⁣
Tre Jones is the brother of former Duke Blue Devil Tyus Jones, and they share a very similar skill set. Tre is a great athlete, but really needs work on his 3 point shot. ⁣
⁣
Carsen Edwards: ⁣
Carsen Edwards will be a junior this season at Purdue. Edwards is a score first guard who can light up the stat sheet, however he’s only 6 feet tall and is not a natural playmaker. ⁣
⁣
Ky Bowman: ⁣
Ky Bowman is a great athlete who can also score at will. His game is much better suited as a SG, but standing at only 6’1, he’s forced into a PG role. He’ll have to get better defensively and improve his playmaking if he wants to be a top prospect. ⁣
⁣
Shamorie Ponds: ⁣
Ponds is yet another Junior making my Top 5 PG’s. Shamorie, like the previous PG’s on my list is undersized at 6’1, but is a prolific scorer. His 3 point shot needs work, and he’s not elite athletically, but his scoring gives him potential for the next level. ⁣

Happy birthday to NBA legend and current St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin! Born in Brooklyn, Mullin had an amazing NBA career that resulted in him getting into the Hall of Fame. He’s a 4 time All-NBA and 5 time a star. He was also a part of the legendary 1992 Olympic Dream Team that won gold in Barcelona. In Golden State he helped form the infamous Run TMC trio alongside Tim Hardaway and Mitch Richmond. As a member of the Pacers he was a solid scoring threat helping them go deep in the playoffs including an NBA finals run. Over his career he has averaged 18.2 points 4.1 rebounds 3.5 assists and 1.6 steals while shooting 50.9% from the field and 38.4% from 3. He now serve as the head coach of St. John’s University and is helping turn their basketball program around.

Big East time! I'm not going to lie. The Big East looks solid this year. The defending champ Villanova lost NPOY winner Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, Donte DiVencezno, and Omari Spellman. Despite all these losses, I still see them as the team to beat in the Big East. They're recruiting class features 3 of my top 50 players, and they still have Phill Booth, and Eric Paschall. Want a sleeper who's primed for a breakout year? Look out for Colin Gillespie. Providence is #2. Alpha Diallo will lead this squad, and Ed Cooley is a good coach who doesn't get the credit he deserves. Georgetown Gomes in at third. Jessie Govan isn't going to disappoint in his senior season. Butler is next. They will always be a competitive team. St. John's is a sleeper team hear. Shamorie Ponds is a beast. The more I watch the more I like. He actually reminds me a little of Isaiah Thomas. If Mustapha Heron is allowed to play this year, they could finish as high as third. Creighton is low-key a deep team. Marquette has a good squad with Markus Howard. They're probably my top bubble team. Xavier will suffer after losing a ton of seniors. I expect a down year from a very good program. Seton Hall still has Myles Powell, they lost a ton of seniors, and I don't know how they can recover. All the teams listed above have a shot at making the tournament. Then there's DePaul. Max Strus is good. Everyone else is bad. DePaul will struggle. A lot. ------
Awards analysis: Ed Cooley gets a well deserved award as he is named the coach of the year. I'm not a huge Jahvon Quinerly fan, but he's my highest rated freshman in this conference, and I don't see anyone else playing as big a role as him. Ty-Shon Alexander will have a breakout year. He's gonna win 6th man of the year. Alpha Diallo is my pick for DPOY. There's a lot of candidates for Big East Player of the Year. Jessie Govan and Markus Howard will be great, but Shamorie Ponds will take the crown.

I know it's way too early for this, but here are my 2019 Draft PG Rankings as of right now. This is actually a very weak class in terms of Point Guards. My Top 2 are freshmen Darius Garland and Ashton Hagans. Both are great passers, and floor generals who understand the game well. Garland's shot is better, so I have to give him the edge. Other freshmen include Tre Jones at 6, and Coby White at 8. I see both guys as more suited for the 2020 draft. Even though both are highly touted recruits, it must be noted that this is a weaker class than last month only three freshmen point guards drafted. I still must include them on this list since they are both very talented. Coby is a guy who can score from anywhere, and Tre plays similar to his brother Tyus. If Tre can match the level of Tyus's production at Duke, he'll be an easy one and done. Coming in at 3, I have Jaylen Hands. Hands is a sophomore from UCLA who could have been a second round pick this year, but decided to return to school. National Player of the Year Candidate Carsen Edwards comes in at 4. He's another guy who could've been a second rounder last month. If Carsen can improve as a playmaker, he could be the safest prospect here. Iowa State guard Lindell Wigginton is 5th. He's a good scorer. Cassius Winston will be the lead guard for one of the best teams in the nation. Look out for a breakout year from him. Meanwhile, at 9 and 10, we have two 20 PPG scorers who don't get much appreciation. ----
Keep in mind that this is a very early look at next year. A lot man change in a year. Remember when Trevon Duval was supposed to be a lottery pick and he didn't get drafted? All I'm trying to say is come December, this is gonna be a lot different, and come next June, it will be even more altered.
