Reality vs Expectation.
Right after this photo was taken I wanted to retake it because, Oh my god my face... lol. Why am I so angry!!?
What a cool picture that I’ll never post because... oh my god my face.
But then I thought about how tired I am of only seeing and posting photos of a finished product, not a work in progress (which I 100% am). What does it really means to show your life on social media? More often than not there is a pressure of showing what an amazing life one has through their social media channels.
As a yoga instructor, there is a real pressure to have photos and videos with good alignment and a “pretty” element to them.
But let’s be honest - that isn’t the reality. Life is messy. Yoga is messy. Sometimes your shirt falls down. Sometimes you try to do a handstand in the middle of a yoga class and you overshoot and tumble (not very gracefully) to the ground. Sometimes you try to do a three legged dog in a hot vinyasa class and your mat is so sweaty your toe slips and you face plant your mat 🤦🏻♀️ ALL THREE OF THESE THINGS HAPPENED TO ME TODAY.
None of them were pretty. None of them were impressive. All of them were real.
Just like this photo of me halfway in this posture with this awful look on my face 🤷🏻♀️. This is real. This is part of the process. This is the reality. Not the expectation.
What if people we adored and were inspired by on social media posted more of their fails and their actual process instead of just their winds? How freaking awesome would that be?
Don’t be afraid to show who you really are.
