Today I am back in the kitchen baking! Now as yummy and beautiful desserts may look, unless you’re a baker, you never truly understand the work that goes into making pastries. Here’s a break down for you... and no, these are not complaints, just the reality. This is NOT the Food Network....
1️⃣ It’s HOT AS BALLS. Especially in the summer. You sweat from head to toe wearing chef pants and a jacket. Luckily for bakers though we’re not always over a hot stove or grill, but we are constantly pushing and pulling things in and out of the oven.
2️⃣ The physical demand is real! Your on your feet for AT LEAST 8 hours. Lifting heavy pots and sheet pans, pulling speed racks, lifting 50lbs bags of sugar and flour. Whisking huge ass batches of pastry cream to a creamy perfection! Lastly, there’s all the times you accidentally burn or cut yourself. 🤫🤭
3️⃣ Temptation. This is what really gets me! All my chocolate lovers - throw your hands in the air 🙌🏻. A very important part of being a cook or baker is making sure you taste your dishes. Sometimes it is easy to do one bite, or find someone else and make you taste, and other times not so much..! This must be why my arms still aren’t flawless after all that whisking ... 🤪 .
The best parts though are watching people OOOO and AWEEE at your creations just from looking. What is even better than that is when they do the same thing after taking a bite. There’s nothing like making people feel joy by being creative with food. It’s an art that certainly not many people can pull off. .
Next time you find yourself out to eat or in a bakery, or something, just remember the hard work, sweat, burns, and sometimes tears that goes in to something that takes only a minute to eat. .
