#SaveTheBees 🐝 Bumblebee species such as the one pictured are hugely important to not only healthy ecosystem function, but also to our own agricultural industry. Over 75% of all major food crops rely on insects for pollination and their input has been shown to increase crop yield and quality, meaning we can't afford to lose these keystone species!! However, human activity is driving severe declines in global pollinators. Threats include habitat loss, climate change, disease and agricultural practices -such as regular application of harmful pesticides and herbicides.
Want to do your bit to help save bees such as this Early Bumblebee male (Bombus pratorum)? Try planting a bee friendly wildflower mix anywhere you have space (honeybees and bumblebees alike absolutely LOVE the borage shown in this picture), providing overwinter hibernation sites such as "bee hotels" and shopping organic!
