🌸 Exfoliating is my secret weapon to perfect skin! Most people tend to either skip it or overdo it. Exfoliation is the process of removing the topmost layer of dead skin cells. This can be achieved chemically, by applying an acid (like a Sal Acid or Glycolic peel) that dissolves those cells, or mechanically by using a brush or scrub to physically remove the cells. Results are immediate as the removal of dead cells leaves the skin looking brighter.
🌸 Before you exfoliate, you really need to understand your skin and skin type; because those with oily skin could possibly use a scrub on a daily basis whereas those with dry, sensitive skin could only tolerate using a scrub 1-2 times per week in order to prevent irritation. Exfoliation keeps the pores minimized, keeps the fine lines at bay, and resurfaces the skin.
Individuals with inflammatory acne, should consult a board-certified dermatologist before selecting an exfoliation method. More aggressive treatments could actually make their condition worse. The same is true of people with rosacea, as many forms of exfoliation may increase facial redness.
🌸 A board-certified dermatologist can help you choose a scrub or perform a variety of exfoliation procedures in the office. Your dermatologist may decide to combine chemical peels with other treatments, like lasers, to better help you achieve your skin goals! Are you exfoliating?
