Lost and found!
Think Tank saves the day - again.
I left the West Indies via St. Kitts tiny airport and it was jam packed with students leaving on break. Half way into the boarding I was told there was no room left in the overhead storage and I’d have to gate check my camera bags - never a pleasant feeling but I’d done it many times and my Airport Security V3.0 had kept my gear safe. This experience as a little different as my bag was take before I crossed the tarmac to board.
Arriving in Miami Customs, my bag was no where to be found and the baggage claim had no idea of it’s whereabouts. I had a 5 hour layover so I had time to find AA customer service and start an investigation. They were not much help as logistics for tracking lost baggage was spotty. We determined my bag was mistagged at the gate and my gear was headed for Costa Rica. They assured me I would have my bag back when I arrived in San Antonio so I crossed my fingers. I had another event to cover the next morning.
My bag wasn’t in San Antonio when I arrived and the baggage service team couldn’t make any progress as the Costa Rica terminal was closed for the night. All indications were that it was there but no confirmation was available. I looked up their policy and they were only able to reimburse up to $1300 for a claim. A rough inventory of what was in the bag came to $31,000.
I pulled together some backup equipment and was able to complete the next day’s assignment. Online tracking and customer service were no help as to the status of my bag until 3 days later I saw a notice it was out for delivery. When delivered I was relieved to find all was good. Time to investigate insurance options before the next adventure abroad!
