🔩MEN AND DREAMS IN THE DHAULADHAR🗻
Author: Kochery C Shibu
Pages: 284 (paperback)
The story revolves around a hydelpower project in the remote parts of Himalayas. Main characters are Nanda, Khusru and Rekha - three different souls, haunted by the ghosts of their past, brought together by fate.
The story seemed very interesting with such detailed background of so many characters but a vast cast means a lot of information which if told impatiently would led to improper storytelling. At times, each chapters seemed incomplete and needed more scene development. .
The novel has drama, action, romance, grief, comedy and supense. The Author tried to portray the cultural and linguistic diversity of our country through the different characters and their dialogues. He has done a rather good job in character development but phasing of scenes needed more care.
The Author used his own real life experience to describe the technicalities of hydro-project, which he did diligently, at times making the novel feel more like a report on the project.
I found the introduction of the mystical influence of Dhauladhar at the end of every chapter very lame and melodramatic. It could have been the author's way of adhering to the theme but it was repetitive and predictable.
Every book has something to teach and this one too has many tales to tell.
All in all, being a debut novel the author must be praised for undertaking such a mammoth task of introducing so many character which he defined so nicely but his full potential as a writer cannot be judged by this piece of work. I would be looking ahead for more of his works.
Lastly, Thank you Mr. Kochery C Shibu for sending me this book for an honest review.
