Vandals broke into the submarine USS Ling overnight. They used tools to break hatches, flooding the submarine. Bronze plaques commemorating WW2 Veterans were also stolen.
Because the vandals knew to open hatches on the lower levels, it is apparent that they were trying to sink the submarine. Ling was not sunk, but she has taken on several feet of water.
Currently, it is unknown if the Submarine will be salvaged.
USS Ling (SS-297) is a balao class submarine. She is tied up at the New Jersey Naval Museum located on the Hackensack River.
