The words "rural" and "south" are challenging enough, but put them together and you've got a virtual invitation to let the stereotypes roll. SlowExposures is special because, year after year, it presents strong visual challenges to simplistic views of a region rich with what Flannery O'Connor called "mystery and manners." Don't come looking for Dixie, please! But do come to meet artists and others who believe that taking a good look at ourselves--at the real, lived experience of the rural South today--can be rewarding, even inspiring. Hope to see many of you in Pike County, Georgia, for #SlowExposures2017, September 14-17.
Thanks for sticking with me the past few days. I'd welcome any of you who want to keep up the friendship to follow me @gourdtree. I'll follow you right back!
