'STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI'
After the masterpiece that was The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars was HUGE. Everyone new about Star Wars, and everyone was waiting for the next movie. After the cliffhangers The Empire Strikes Back had finished on, people had so many questions that they wanted answers too. During the three years it took to make 'RETURN OF THE JEDI' audiences around the world waited for the grand finale of the Star Wars saga with great anticipation. Then in May 1983 it was released. Audiences loved it - and they still do.
Although people argue that Return of the Jedi is the worst out of the original trilogy, I have to say I don't agree. I feel like this one and A New Hope are on the same level. I feel this way for many reasons:
The acting, music, cinematography, plot, pacing, characters and set/character design is on par with both of the other original Star Wars movies.
The reason ESB is better however is that it was more original, progressive and fresh.
Return of the Jedi has flaws but so does A New Hope (and probably ESB but I just can't think of any.) But when the flaws occur, the movie has things to make up for them almost immediately. For instance:
Ewoks = Awesome Space Battle.
Another Death Star = Awesome lightsaber battle between Luke and Vader.
I love this movie. It's fun, charming, suspenseful, the stakes are high, the characters are great, it's funny, the lightsaber battle is awesome, the space battle is epic, Vader is excellent again, the Emperor is awesome, the script is clever... Honestly, I could go on and on.
Overall, Return of the Jedi has flaws. But I still think it's absolutely incredible. I love this movie as much as A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. It is a fantastic way to wrap up the saga and certainly I recommend that if you haven't seen the original Star Wars trilogy, go give it a watch and experience the phenomenon like no other.
I give 'STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI' an A+.
