in general, I’m working to cultivate patience e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e. as a result I find that I often get frustrated with myself for not being patient enough (aka being human). and then I have to remind myself that I, too, deserve patience from myself for myself. it’s a hard practice, but I’m here for it 🌸

I am a firm believer that every choice you make has an impact on the next choice given. All of the things I have stumbled through have led me to this beautiful thing called yoga 🧘‍♀️ ⠀
I tested it here and there throughout my life and never really gave it a chance, but it kept calling me back. I’m so excited to take this yoga journey even further going through YTT starting in Jan. 💛 there is so much to learn and understand and I’m ready to soak it all up.

In 1905 a diversion structure on the Colorado River was breached creating an incarnation of Lake Cahuilla; a shifting lake that filled and evaporated multiple times over thousands of years.
In 1924 the sea was designated as a drainage reservoir; if this hadn’t occurred lake Cahuilla surely would have evaporated once again.
In 1950 the Salton Sea was a bustling hot spot but heavy river water use and a series of storms that caused widespread flooding in 1977/1978 caused seaside developments to become abandoned.
In 2018 California passed proposition 68; a general obligation bond with $200 million for Salton Sea projects.

Let’s be honest here for a second.. life is HARD you guys! Sometimes I sit and think to myself “what’s going to happen next?” or “this-one-thing-after-another B.S. is absolutely NOT what I signed up for!”

But guess what? We all get slapped in the face and punched in the stomach AT LEAST 102,473 times before we leave this Earth.

Hate your job? Don’t have a job? Just broke up with someone you loved? Getting divorced? Car break down? Get caught in the rain without an umbrella? Someone steal your credit card? Straighten your hair and it immediately look like a rats nest the second you walk outside because of the humidity? Bite your tongue in the SAME damn spot AGAIN? Cut an avocado open and it be completely brown in the middle?

Some of those things are extreme and some of those things aren’t but here’s the bottom line.. YOU are a fricken warrior and you can kick whatever stupid, unbelievable, horribly timed battle’s ass! Believe in the process, believe that things get better and SHINE on! ☀️👍🏼

😂 Anyone else?
I never really paid attention to my eating habits. Didn’t think about why I eat, how much I eat, or how often. I often ate quickly. I ate while standing and doing other things (when multi-tasking was a skill to be praised!). I ate when I was bored, out of habit, or when I was upset. I ate when other people around me were eating.
Then I learned about mindfulness. What is that? For me, it’s been about learning to pause, be present, and pay attention. It’s about slowing down and noticing what you’re thinking and feeling. When it comes to food, I started by sitting down for as many meals and snacks as I could. This was my baby step. Then I practiced a couple of other things: 👉🏼Just sitting and eating. Simple, right? Try it. Do nothing else but sit and eat. No phone or other distractions. Wasn’t as simple as it seemed.
👉🏼Eating slower. This one was not any easier.
👉🏼Eating until I was almost full, not stuffed. It meant leaving food on my plate. I had to quiet my mom’s “don’t waste food!” voices going off in my head!
👉🏼Eating only when I was hungry. But I’m hungry all the time… no, not really. I just like to eat
Learning to become mindful was a game changer for me. I learned how to pay attention to my body cues to know the difference between being truly hungry and being bored. I added foods to my meals rather than subtracting. Foods that had nutritional value. Foods I surprisingly liked. Foods that made me feel satisfied and less deprived. It’s amazing what you discover about yourself through these few practices.

This practice has offered and opened up so many possibilities 💫🌙 From developping a relationship with both my body & brain to knowing what it really means to cultivate both community and connection.
