<slide> One of the most poorly executed transitions I see in class these days is the ‘jump back’ to Chatarunga (aka Low Plank) during any form of a Sun Salutation. Here’s a quick series of photos showing the sequence from Forward Fold>Half Way Lift>Jump Back>Low Plank (Chatarunga)>Up Dog>DownDog...a few things to keep in mind when jumping back...1) Hands planted firmly with fingers wide 2) elbows hugged in and pointed back towards the feet 3) ‘shoot back’ to a stiff low plank...not Semi stiff high plank where your whole mid section dips and wobbles, a stiff low plank with elbows hugging into the ribs and shoulders no lower than the elbows...creating a sort of right angle from the shoulder to the elbow and down the forearm to the hand. If you don’t have the strength to hold low plank properly for at least a few seconds then it’s probably not a good idea to try and jump into it yet...instead walk the feet back to High plank, hug the elbows in, lower the knees down first then hug elbows in as you lower to a low plank with knees down. Hopefully that makes some sense 😂🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s challenging either way but by not trying to progress faster than your body is ready for you will save yourself from many potential injuries. Take your time, move with the breath and try again next time...soon you will be strong enough ...if jump backs are a goal of yours it’s only a matter of consistently showing up on your Mat 🤗 #PracticeAndAllIsComimg #Yoga #Mindfulness #ForwardFold #HalfWayLift #JumpBack #Chataranga #LowPlank #UpDog #DownDog #PointOfYouYoga

Dharana. One pointed focus even if for brief moments is helpful and healing to experience. It can be a tough thing to do at first ...only pay attention to the breath and give it all your heightened awareness but soon after some practice it can become this beautiful relief to not feel splintered in 10,000 directions. A relaxing into one thing. From knowing the one thing intimately we can then truly know the 10,000 things without division or debate. •

Yoga isn’t a static pose or arrival point in life but a feeling that evolves moment to moment. What your yoga looks and feels like today is different from when you first started and will change as you change...maybe just small increments...maybe great leaps. What is the goal of your yoga practice? Whether it be primarily physical or spiritual I encourage you to let it flow and change as needed ...despite what anyone (including the great master teachers) might say there is no right or wrong method but only High and Low risk approaches to seeking relief...it’s up to us to choose what feels right in any moment along the way. Today I choose peace and relaxation.
