I can see clearly now. Astronaut Pete Conrad is reflected in the visor of Alan Bean, who is holding a lunar soil sample, during Apollo 12, Nov 1969. A12 landed 4 months after Apollo 11 & landed precisely in their intended target of the Ocean of Storms, nearby Surveyor 3, which soft landed on the moon in 1967. A12 was struck by lighting twice in the 1st minute after launch, but amazingly it kept right on going. Richard Gordon was the Command Module pilot on the flight. #apollo12 #astronauts #moonlanding #spaceflight #spaceage #1969 #apolloprogram #alanbean #nasa #spaceexploration #spacetravel #manonthemoon #astronaut #peteconrad #spacerace #spaceprogram #nasa🚀 #1960s #projectapollo #spacestuff

This work of art is titled The Dream and was painted by Apollo 12 LMP Alan Bean. As we all know lunar landing missions of Project Apollo allowed two men to walk on the moon while the third crew member (the CMP) stayed in lunar orbit as it was his job to make the connection between both the Lunar Module and Command Module. Alan Bean came to have such a profound respect for a man by the name of Richard Gordon who was Apollo 12’s CMP. When people would present Alan Bean as the man who would join commander Pete Conrad on the lunar surface Richard Gordon never said a smart remark or ever showed an ounce of jealousy. He proudly took on the roll of Command Module Pilot of Apollo 12 and stayed in lunar orbit and lost his chance to walk on the moon but Alan Bean always dreamed and wondered of what it would have been like if Richard had been able to join Pete and him on the Moon. I look forward when mankind returns to the moon and we have not one or two but multiple people in a photograph from the lunar surface - Jay #apolloprogram #projectapollo #apollo12 #peteconrad #alanbean #richardgordon #flight #aviation #nasa #space #spaceexploration #moon #luna #art #painting #kennedyspacecenter #johnsonspacecenter #universe #universetoday #science #technology #awesome #instagram #picoftheday #photooftheday #lunarmodule

Things look 👀 good from here! The Apollo 12 crew at the start of their 4-day journey to the 🌖, Nov 1969. A12 left Cape Kennedy in a rainstorm 🌧 & triggered a lightning ⚡️strike 36 seconds after launch. 52 seconds later it endured a 2nd strike ⚡️! Yet the Saturn V continued on its trajectory; some instrumentation was affected but not enough to halt the mission. When 👨‍🚀s Alan Bean, Richard Gordon & Pete Conrad arrived in the safety zone of 🌏 orbit, they were able double-check ✅ if all was in working order before firing up the S-1VB 🚀 to carry onto the 🌖. & the rest as they say, is history. #apollo12 #astronauts #planetearth #1969 #earthorbit #nasa #spaceflight #moonlanding #spaceage #spacerace #peteconrad #apolloprogram #alanbean #sixties #spacehistory #earth🌎#spaceprogram #nasa🚀 #astronaut #spaceexploration #projectapollo #1960s #theearth

Returning home 🏡. Astronauts Gordon Cooper & Pete Conrad aboard the U.S.S. Lake Champlain ⚓️ following their successful Gemini 5 mission, Aug 1965. G5 doubled G4’s time in space, a previous 🇺🇸 space record. 8 days was also the time a trip to the 🌖 would involve 🚀. #projectgemini #astronauts #nasa #1965 #spaceflight #gordoncooper #spaceage #peteconrad #spacerace #projectgemini #spaceprogram #nasa #spaceexploration #astronaut #sixties #splashdown #geminiprogram #spacehistory #60s #gemini5 #spacemen #vintagespace

Water 💦 world 🌎. Astronauts 👨‍🚀 Pete Conrad & Gordon Cooper practise some survival skills in the Gulf of Mexico in preparation for Gemini 5; July, 1965. G5 was the 1st time an American 🇺🇸 mission held the record for time in space 🌌, at 7 days & 23 hours. Conrad nicknamed the mission ‘8 days in a garbage can’; the Gemini cabin was about 1/2 the size of a VW Beetle. #gemini5 #astronauts #peteconrad #spacerace #gordoncooper #spaceage #1965 #nasa #spacetraining #vintagespace #geminiprogram #astronaut #spaceprogram #spacehistory #projectgemini #spacestuff #nasa🚀 #spaceflight #1960s #spacetravel #sixties #spacehistory

In 1958, NASA sought to send a person to the highest altitude ever attempted. To do so, they would need the most advanced pressure suit in the world. NASA contracted B.F. Goodrich to make 21 specially modified versions of their Navy Mk IV--three for each of the Mercury Seven Astronauts.

Did you know that after the crew of Apollo 12 solved their electrical systems problem on the CSM Pete Conrad laughed all the way into earth orbit? #apolloprogram #projectapollo #moon #nasa #space #spaceexploration #apollo12 #peteconrad #flight #aviation #kennedyspacecenter #johnsonspacecenter #astronaut #astronomy #universe #universetoday #video #instagram #science #technology #pilot #pilots #pilotlife #awesome

Did you know that the crew of Apollo 12 almost aborted their mission? Moments after liftoff lightning hit the Saturn V rocket and temporarily put the Command Module’s electrical system off line.
