#inspirational These Afghan girls are setting the stage for the future of their country. #peacethroughsports #Repost @tschiavitti with @get_repost
I’ve heard a lot of people ask Hasina and Zeinab WHY they want to run. Why would anyone risk their life to run in a war zone in a society that restricts most women to their homes? Why do they want to run 250km in one of the world’s toughest endurance races through the Gobi Desert?
Their replies always center around this idea of showing strength and capability. Their voices rise with the hope that if they succeed, they can convince other young Afghan girls to take back their freedom and experience the joy of sprinting down a mountain.
In my mind, they’ve already done it. The last four months alongside their ultra training, they’ve been leading sports sessions for high school girls. Many of which have applied to be part of Free to Run’s new core team. All of which never thought sports would be a possibility before meeting two young Afghan women training to run their first ultra marathon.
If you’d like to support these two women in their journey to inspire other women and girls in Afghanistan to dare to dream bigger, click the link in my bio!
