3 One Hit Wonders...
#septembervinylchallenge hosted by @twobeardsonerecord - Day 19 - A One Hit Wonder.
Hmmmm... I must admit I really struggled with this days challenge as I have quite a few One Hit Wonder records. So much so that I managed to narrow it down to 3 but then couldn’t decide which one of the three!
Bruce Willis - Respect Yourself
This is a cover of The Staple Singers track and features backing vocals by The Pointer Sisters. He also released an album “The Return Of Bruno” being a collection of R&B songs, which included this track. The single and album were released mid-way through his role as detective David Addison in the hit TV series Moonlighting. I must admit that I was a huge fan of the series. 👍🏼😁 Perhaps his success, thanks to this role, lead him to making an album! The single made it into the top 10!
Paul Hardcastle - 19. This song was based on the post-traumatic stress disorder suffered by war veterans and in particular those who fought in the Vietnam war. It was in essence an electro style record and pretty catchy too! Which is why I ended up with a copy of it! 😆 It reached number 1 in the U.K. and most other countries.
Dexys Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen. This track reached number 1 in the U.K. and won Best British Single in 1983 Brit Awards. It was also declared number 1 in the VH1 Top 100 One Hit Wonders Of The 80s!
To be honest I never really liked this song... my mum and Aunt loved it (mainly as my aunts name is Eileen), they insisted I buy it. I don’t know why I still have it! 😂 . .
