Sea Shepherd's first campaigns stared in the ice floes of Canada, in an effort to protect baby seals from being clubbed to death for their pelts. Since then Sea Shepherd has had many more campaigns, including campaigns bringing us back to where it all started...Canada. Operation Virus Hunter is a campaign opposing salmon farms, in cooperation with the First Nations Peoples in BC, Canada. Wild salmon populations of the Pacific Northwest are at risk due to the impact of diseases and parasites caught from farmed salmon that share the same waterways, impacting not only the wild salmon, but the entire ecosystem, including orcas, which rely heavily on the wild salmon in the area. That is why, earlier this year, we sent our research sailing vessel to British Columbia for the second time, to conduct scientific research on the issue. World renowned export biologist Alexandra Morton lead the study.
Do you know what sailing vessel we sent to Operation Virus Hunter? Psst.. It is also in the photo ;) (📷 Simon Ager/Sea Shepherd)
