It's time to switch on Transformative Energy for our people.

Members of CREDO Savings and Agrarian Reform Cooperative experienced first hand the potential of solar energy in empowering communities during the training conducted by CEED last October 25.

Days later, another strong typhoon came to threaten the general area that #OmpongPH affected just over a month ago. This is another clear reminder of the urgent need to transition away from carbon-intensive energy sources that induce climate change, and of renewable energy's capability to address the energy needs posed by the impacts of climate disasters.

Clean and Affordable Renewable Energy for our farmers: the Microgrids Project goes to Aguiguican!

On October 25 and 26, the Center for Energy, Ecology, and Development conducted a solar discussion and planning together with the members of CREDO Savings and Agrarian Reform Cooperative. The activity is a response to the findings of a joint rapid assessment last month after the onslaught of#OmpongPH, in which Cagayan was found to be in need of stable and sustainable energy sources because of its being a climate vulnerable province.

Under the Likas Kayang Enerhiya ng Sambayanan Campaign of a growing network of CSOs, people's organizations, and faith-based groups, CEED continues to pursuit the dream of a Philippines powered by 100% renewable energy which is at the heart of a true people-centered development path for the energy sector.

Last week, around 500 families from Barangays Balanni and Lipatan in Sto Nino town, Cagayan received multipurpose cash that will provide them better access to nutritious food after Typhoon #OmpongPH (Mangkhut) destroyed most of their sources of income.
This was made possible through funding from Humanitarian Aid department of the European Commission (ECHO) through a consortium composed of Oxfam sa Pilipinas, @careorg Philippines, @planphilippines and @actionagainsthungerph and through local partners Citizens' Disaster Response Center, Cagayan Valley Disaster Response Center and Philpost. 📷 @denviebalidoy/Oxfam

Antagal mong walang paramdam tapos ngayon bigla ka magtetext? Ano? Dahil wala na kayo ni #OmpongPH ? #NDRRMC #RositaPH #WaterproofEmployee #BuhayCallCenter

Mahigit isang buwang walang kuryente dito...First time namin makagamit ng solar kapag bumabagyo na walang kuryente kaya tuwang-tuwa kami talaga." #CAREforthePeople #CAREforTheClimate #ompongph #ClimateChange #RenewableEnergy #SolarPanel #Solar #Cagayan

Last October 25 and 26, CEED returned to Lasam in Cagayan to assess how the people have been coping a month after the devastation caused by #OmpongPH. Lasam was among the areas visited by CEED during a joint rapid assessment last September, and was also one of the two communities to have been loaned a #solar tekpak.

According to community leaders, the tekpak was a very welcome help to the people as it enabled the charging of mobile phones for them to communicate with loved ones and served as a light source during the night. It took more than a month for electricity in Lasam to return, and until now the power supply is still unstable and restoration for all homes has yet to be completed. Street lights are nonfunctional as of the moment.

The impacts of typhoon Ompong on the lives, livelihoods, and homes of the people of Cagayan remain, and the need for Transformative Energy that empowers communities in the context of the changing climate is clear as ever.

Super Typhoon #Yutu #RositaPH forecast track to hit same path taken by #OmpongPH . Northern Luzon is advised to take all the necessary precautions and emergency preparations before its approach and landfall. Hurricane Track and Wind Accumulation via @windyforecast https://t.co/TmKMm7HlQi

A month after the onslaught of #OmpongPH, the Center for Energy, Ecology, and Development returned to heavily devastated Cagayan to find out how the province and its people have been faring.

Despite leaves and grass having grown anew, the marks that the super typhoon left on the lives, homes, and livelihoods of the people vividly remain.

After #ompongph here comes #rositaph. Come on #climatechange give us a freakin’ break. 😞

When typhoon Ompong struck Cagayan last September, 68- year old Norma was left with only the foundation of her house. “The whole time until I became part of World Vision’s shelter intervention, I was restless and always without sleep,” shares Norma.
Fast forward to October 20, Norma received shelter kits and cash voucher worth P1300 for other shelter materials. Also through the beneficiaries’ bayanihan, a Filipino culture of communal unity, and World Vision’s provision of labor support through hiring of skilled carpenters, she now enjoys her own space! 😊 “Thank you to all the donors. I can now sleep well at night," she said.

Thank you for this Manna!

LOOK: There's a new addition to our relief packs! Thanks to the generous donation of International Care Ministries, we were able to add 8kg of Manna packs of nutrient-filled rice to our food bags.

These Manna packs are in addition to our standard food relief containing 20 kilos of rice, 8 cans of sardines, 1 kilo of legumes, 1 kilo of brown sugar, 1/2 kilo of dried fish, 1/2 kilo of salt, 1 liter of cooking oil, and 2 packs of biscuits. Each food pack is sufficient for the nutritional needs of a family of five for two weeks.

Did you know? The diameter of Typhoon Mangkhut is approximately 900km when it made landfall in northern Luzon, the Philippines. #MangkhutPH #OmpongPH #1asean1response
