Tyler The Creator - Goblin review
Best songs: Yonkers, She, Nightmare, Tron Cat, Her, Analog, Golden
Worst songs: Radicals, Bitch Suck Dick
Replay value: 6.5/10
Goblin is the debut studio album by Odd Future member Tyler The Creator. Like I mentioned in the Bastard review, Tyler has a unique dark sound on his first two projects that not everyone likes, and I am one of the people that dislike the style (this will not effect my scoring of the album). Lyrically, this album was an upgrade from Bastard, but still had a few flaws. We all know Tyler has bars, but subject matter was where he lacked although it was an improvement from Bastard. The production on this album was not very enjoyable for me but it definetly wasn't bad. The beats are very dark and you have to be in a certain mood to hear them. The features were good on every song except for Bitch Suck Dick. I had no idea what that song was supposed to be and it honestly seemed like a wasted track for me. Despite that track, we got great features from Frank Ocean and Hodgy Beats (who it pretty underrated). Overall, this album sounds good but it will not connect with everybody. I don't mind Tyler's voice, but I hate when he uses that super deep voice because it just sounds like I'm listening to a robot or something and it kills the sound of his music for me. Replay value isn't very high on this album just because of the overall dark sound that is hard to get into. You guys might think I underrated this a little bit, but I just can't connect with it at all and I know many people feel the same. Still a solid album from Tyler and an improvement from his previous work, which is all that matters.
