49ers are making minor changes to their uniforms in 2017 while Nike introduces a new jersey template to be used by a majority of NFL teams. The most notable change for San Francisco is the sleeve striping, which has been due for an upgrade.
Those pictures were snagged from the NFL Shop’s website, indicating the team’s truncated and slanted sleeve stripes are a thing of the past. The 49ers’ classic, understated uniforms never looked quite right when the jerseys were tailored with pads because the stripes would be stretched downward and cut off.
The new jersey also has a new (and improved) collar that no longer features Nike’s “Flywire” technology. It’s a cleaner look than before.
Also of note: The NFL Shop is selling a black version of the updated jersey, which would indicate the polarizing all-black alternate could be back for a third season.
The 49ers last year went with their black look for their “color rush” Thursday night home game against Arizona. San Francisco’s Thursday night game in 2017 will be against the Rams at home to start Week 3. (NINERS WIRE)
