Just want to give y’all a little update. I have officially decided I am going to be competing in my first bikini competition in August 🤗 I’m super excited....and extremely nervous, but mostly excited. I have started my bikini workouts and they have been kicking my butt, but I’m loving the challenge and the feeling of waking up every morning sore 🙌🏼 It’s going to be a long, almost 7 months, of lots of ups and downs, but I know with y’alls support and the help from my amazing Coach (@fitfabash), I’ll get where I need to be come August 4th. This week I incorporated a HIIT routine at the house in the AM. Heavy bag, ropes and jump rope...well, sorta jump rope. Then lifting at night followed by some additional cardio either HIIT or sustained. Been a good week, I can feel my 47 years, but still good. Happy Friday!!

Just a little workout with my girls @jlauren0408 and @anita_hawley - I was trying to shake my legs out since they were jello and @quarter_deck_athletics called me out - turn the volume up for all the fun. Its amusing to watch this because I usually forget what he says during workouts. Thanks @healthyhuman_project for the stolen video.

💥#FitnessFriYAY: The Squat Pt 3: Common Mistakes and How to Fix Them💥

💥Like all exercises, squatting can be dangerous if done incorrectly. Below are some of the most common mistakes, what they mean, and how to fix them. Check it out:
#
💥BUTT WINK💥
❌The Issue: tucking the hips under the body at the bottom of the squat resulting in a rounded lumbar spine
❓Why This Happens: typically indicates tight hamstrings, or lack of hip flexion/mobility, but sometimes happens because of anatomy
✅The Fix: increasing flexibility in the hamstrings and hip flexors, practicing slow, eccentric squats to a box, and practicing stopping just before the butt wink occurs

💥HIPS SHOOTING UP / STRIPPER SQUATS💥
❌The Issue: as you are standing back up from the squat, the hips shoot up first
❓Why This Happens: typically due to quad weakness....you are finishing the squat with the hamstrings and lower back rather than your quads
✅The Fix: strengthen the quads, using exercises like front squats, leg presses, lunges, and leg extensions

💥KNEE VALGUS💥
❌The Issue: knees cave in towards the center instead of staying over the toes as you squat, which can cause knee issues
❓Why This Happens: most likely due to weak hips and weak glute medius
✅The Fix: glute and hip strengthening, using exercises like monster walks, lateral band walks, hip external and internal rotation, hip abduction and adduction, etc. Also try squatting with a light band just below the knees to cue keeping the knees pushing out

💥HEELS COMING OFF THE FLOOR💥
❌The Issue: as you squat down, your heels are popping up off the ground, thus throwing off your center of gravity and balance
❓Why This Happens: could be caused by a few different things: poor ankle mobility, weak hamstrings/posterior chain, tight calves, or poor core stability
✅The Fix: depending on what the issue is, work on ankle mobility drills (last video); increasing hamstring/posterior chain strength with deadlifts, RDLs, hamstring curls, etc; increasing core stability using plank variations and deadbugs; or stretching the calves in improve dorsiflexion. In the meantime, try squatting with small plates under your heels to keep your center of gravity.
