I pushed through a lot of physical pain the last 6 months because I was unable to acknowledge the line between pain and damage. I (with no complaints and in complete gratitude) needed to meet demands, adhere to deadlines and did not want to mess up as a young woman who has been given extreme opportunity. I felt abnormally tired, weak, dizzy, nauseous, and swollen. I didn’t listen to the signals and there were even points where I felt as though I was making it up but ... then I literally passed out from the pain and went all over the ER. I have been in and out since trying to get to the bottom of my health situation while upholding current commitments to the best of my ability. Long story short: I will be ok. And I love dance with all of my heart but I have to take a physical break in order to heal properly. I’ve never known a life without dance (as I write with little tears in my eyes) but I cannot wait to function from a normal level again.
Thanking my wife, friends, collaborators and colleagues for being as understanding as possible through this. It’s been a long few months but I am grateful to be alive and to have access to health care at all. Starting this journey towards optimal wellness so that I can keep giving to my craft in the ways that I know I need to. I appreciate those who have stepped in and showed up. You’ve taught me the ultimate lesson in unconditional love.
Onwards. Listen to your bodies.
