As a person with bipolar disorder, I experience things like sensory overload. I especially noticed it today when driving at night to go and pick up my boyfriend.

All of the lights on the cars were so overwhelming to me. They were so bright it gave me a headache. Yes! A real headache. When people say mental illness is “all in your head”, first of all, DUH mental meaning BRAIN. But also, no, because our mental illnesses often manifest themselves in physical ways, like this headache!

I also felt the radio blaring, even though it was just on a medium volume. This car ride really took all of the energy out of me, even though it was a short one, and by the time I got home, I was exhausted.

Have any of you experienced sensory overload as a side effect of your mental illness? I think feeling so much also means we experience life more intensely, which I guess includes light and sound. It’s kind of cool, but more annoying than anything.

That one thing is that everyone will stop WORRYING what others think. That everyone will be comfortable with who they truly are. We all bring our own gifts to this Earth and if we are holding them back, are we really doing the best we can? No. We get so caught up in comparing ourselves and thinking we are better than someone else. FALSE. We are all the same. We all have our own problems, and nobody has their crap together. You guys see perfection on instagram, well ya know what? Those are the only perfect moments those people have. They're on vacation? Good for them, but if they have to show the world this "good" thing, it's probably one of the few they experience. Remember that.

Feeling oh so tired and sore after taking an introductory Krav Maga class yesterday! It felt really great to take charge of my ever-present anxiety and just do something about it and empower myself 👊🏻 I didn’t realize how awesome it would feel to get started on learning some skills and how to handle the situation should I ever need to defend myself. I absolutely LOVED being able to hit the strike pads as hard as I could, as well as learning how to go on the offense should I ever be grabbed by the hair from behind. I left the class feeling like I can finally start learning how to not be so timid and scared of things - so I signed up for a membership, because I want to learn so much more!

PS: this is a new challenge! I’m still following my at-home fitness programs, because they work so well for my busy lifestyle and I can honestly say that I’m in the best shape of my life, so far anyways! I just really wanted to add something new to the mix and truly test myself! Going out of my comfort zone is so hard, so I was really proud of myself for actually going 😄💪🏼 Have you done anything out of your comfort zone lately? I’d love to hear!!!

Somedays are harder than others. Tonight while making dinner I had to sit down numerous times. I felt light headed and so weak. I barely could stand.

While eating dinner, Lillian looked up at me and asked “why do you look sad mama?” “I’m just tired baby. So tired. Mama needs a break.”

Being fatigued all day long most days is harder than you’d think. I’m tired and need to rest after the littlest things. Ya I push myself too hard most days. (That’s my anxiety.) I don’t sleep well at night either. I rest when I can..but it is so debilitating.
.
It could be worse now because of what I’m facing personally at the moment. But I also know it’s just apart of me. I have chronic fatigue. Something we don’t talk enough about. What do you struggle with? What do you suffer from? What is a coping mechanism or something that helps you? I’d like to know!❤️

Something that I’ve found has helped me more than anything from my doctor is fitness and nutrition. It really has. Just ten minutes of exercise seems to boost my energy tremendously! .
