GAIN vs LOSS - what are you training for?

There is a certain irony in modern day bro science. Everyone is chasing the holy grail of ‘gains’ whilst the majority of training methodologies and gyms are programming loss.
Sessions are measured in sweat and and in burn. “Why do you enjoy that specific class?” “Because you sweat like mad and it’s soooo hard”. A common conversation.
But what are you gaining? Where are these much sort out gains? A gym programme/session should be designed to encourage adaptation. When a spinning instructor tells you that you are doing a power block in the last ten minutes of your session when you’ve already undergone an aerobic capacity challenge and multiple hill climbs, you can be fairly certain that no such power adaptation will take place.
Ask for more from your training. Aim for positive adaptation. Get stronger. More powerful. More mobile. More flexible. Fitter. Ask for enjoyment too!
And if you don’t know why you are doing something ASK WHY!

Let’s talk about insecurities. (And I’m not asking for compliments, just being honest)
One of my biggest and longest insecurity has been my legs. Even in middle and high school when I cheered, I hated my legs. For one they’re short. Like really short which makes me feel stubby. Then the year I did my figure show I remember telling my trainer, Daniel, my insecurities with my legs. Flash forward to my GSX CrossFit days when I learned so much with Olympic lifting and began to embrace my legs. Then I had a kid and tried to keep them in shape. Lasted for a little bit. And now I’m 33 and feel so insecure about them: how not sculpted they are and how much cellulite they have, that I have worn shorts in public maybe twice this whole year. 🙈
With all that said-here’s to continuing to workout and push myself and not giving up on being the best version of myself, but also giving myself a little grace and mercy and trying not to care what I look like or what other people think. That’s pretty hard for me. And I know we all preach about not caring what others think, but it’s easier to say that then actually do that. I’m human and I struggle with trivial crap just like everyone. #beyou #bereal
