Yesterday, I went for drinks with other ~faculty~ after our class ended. We went to an upscale seafood bar and I totally flashed back to law school. I thought about how intimidated I was when I would meet real attorneys (adjunct faculty) who were so secure in their abilities and practice. I’d see them mingle with each other and go get drinks at these upscale places (places my family could never afford and I never thought I would either) and I’d just be amazed. I know it’s funny what can make an impression, but as a girl who grew up poor, becoming a lawyer was a wild dream, let alone a successful one. So flash forward, years later, I was the adjunct getting drinks with other attorneys at a very lawyer-y bar—-it felt super full-circle, but the best part was that the other faculty were also women of color! How about that?! || tomorrow #ontheblog, the #sidebar post will go up, where I discuss how teaching has been going along with the rest of my monthly faves!
