Just finished this powerful story about Red Cloud, the Sioux warrior-statesman, who was the only Native American in history to defeat the US army. This book is gripping, brutal (war + horrendous breaking of treaties by the US government) and digs deep into all sides of the story. In a time when you can’t trust everything you read, I trust this. And since 1866 was only 152 years ago, I am not as separated as I thought from my ancestors’ atrocities. Read this book. Gain perspective. And learn how we got to the political climate we’re in today. If nothing else, it’s just really well written.
