An hour stroll across flat barren land that was well worth it.
The Sólheimasandur plane wreckage apparently used to be accessible by car. However, because all the driving began ruining the natural landscape in the area, the government had decided to block off the original driving route in order to protect it. The crash site is now only accessible on foot by a 45-60 minute walk. When it's gloomy and foggy, it would almost seem as if you've been walking on the same spot for the longest time; but when the weather clears up, it's an entirely different experience as you find yourself surrounded by a panoramic mountain view.
Sunny or gloomy, you will soon forget about that "boring walk" when you arrive at this photogenic piece of metal. —
