Jan. 15 2K18 is circled on my wall calendar at my office by my #fish tank. Scribbled inside that little square in bright, red ink are two words: No #School. For many of us, #MartinLutherKing Jr. Day is part of another three-day weekend when we stay in relax watch college basketball games/#NFL #Football playoff games and on Monday go watch live HS Basketball MLK Tournament games showcase marathon live. As much as we all love munching popcorn on the couch and not having to drive the carpool the kids to #La for the #Aces #CocoCola #Nationals in our youth basketball program, this holiday due to are first core group of boys are all Freshmen in college now and the youngest group now are in HS finally; this #Holliday #Honors one of the greatest leaders in #American history, provides us parents and coaches a rather unique opportunity. It gives us the perfect springboard for a chat with our program #kids and other kids in the community. I played them a #YouTube video on my iPad. The kids were quiet (rare) as they listened to #MartinLutherKing, Jr. deliver his famous ‘#iHaveADream’ speech. Prior to playing the video for them on my #iPad, I gave them a brief intro to who he was, what he stood for and the non-violent ways in which he stood up for what was right, about important principles, like standing up for what you believe in and #EqualRights, ideals for which #King Jr fought his whole life.
King Jr gave us many quotes that are ideal conversation starters. Take a moment to share his words with your kids and explore why we celebrate this #courageous man. Who knows -- maybe his words will inspire your little ones to think about how they can begin to make a difference in their world.
