Seventh grade students from Tower Heights Middle School learned about our community’s history during a walking tour this week.
. . .
They visited the following locations:
▪️Sugarcreek Cemetery, where two of Centerville’s three founders are buried, as well as a number of American Revolution and Civil War veterans including Dr. John Hole
▪️Routsong Funeral Home, which still includes a one-story portion of Benjamin Robbins’ house
▪️Town Hall Theatre, which was formerly Doolittle Tavern and a fire station
▪️Walton House and a chicken house to learn about the agricultural history of Centerville
▪️The Ashael Wright House and School Museum
▪️Benham’s Grove, which is situated on land that was originally part of a 50-acre farm belonging to Aaron Nutt
▪️Schoolhouse 5 and the site of the first bank robbery in Centerville
. . .
Centerville traces its roots back to 1796. This year marks its 50th anniversary of becoming a city.
