The FINISH LINE! I was too exhausted to even share this experience yesterday after we crossed the finish line. 😅😅
@levirenderer and I both agreed, this was the most challenging race of our lives! 👊
During the 27 mile bike ride I had to give myself a pep talk on every grueling hill (and there were many). .
Getting off the bike, I could hardly walk..I hadn't trained at all on the bike 🚴 but I took all the lessons I learned in Spin Class with @bretthoebel and put them into practice. Using my core and more! .
I haven't been on a kayak in about 3 years so attempting this 5 mile trip around the lake felt like a lifetime. 😳 I was tempted to throw in the towel but I just kept paddling and somehow made it out alive. 💪
After my legs had about 1:30 hours to sit in a kayak, it was time to run. But my legs felt like lead after sitting and tightening for so long in the kayak! 😩
I start running...slowly... and start feeling better. 🤗
Then my IT BAND decided to clench its weary self and almost locks up my knee. Shooting pain goes up my thigh! 😫😫
For a moment I think I'm done. No way can I go another 5 miles like this...I walk, side shuffle, back peddle and then run again. The knee gives out...so I walk, side shuffle, back peddle and run...I repeat this the entire 5 miles. Every mile just praying my IT BAND doesn't completely lock up. 🙏🙏
It was the hardest race for many reasons: 1. I didn't train my body for the events 2. I was mentally challenged to fight for every step of the race 3. I've never wanted to quit so many times in one race. .
Lesson learned: you can accomplish just about anything if you really want to..but if you don't prepare, it will be more grueling, you will suffer more, and you'll perform below your capabilities. 👊
This is like any goal or project in life, I should have known better! Now I do:) and with this experience came wisdom and a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to share this experience with my brother.
