Imagine the movie “Alien" (1979) without Jerry Goldsmith’s unnerving score. Here’s the opening music notes for “Here Kitty.” This is from the Jerry Goldsmith music sketches which are housed at the Margaret Herrick Library.
Now spinning... My beat-up POLTERGEIST vinyl. Found a used copy years back at my local record store which has "Austin Public Library" stamps & stickers all over it. Plays like it was never checked out but has tons of wear on the jacket. Goldsmith's score is whimsical yet maddening. Always an uncomfortably fun listen.
Here’s one for the late George C. Scott on his birthday that may be worth your attention: THE LAST RUN (1971). An existential thriller somewhere between the films of Jean-Pierre Melville and Walter Hill’s THE DRIVER, THE LAST RUN was written by Alan Sharp (NIGHT MOVES, ROB ROY), shot by Ingmar Bergman regular Sven Nykvist, and scored by Jerry Goldsmith. It’s another instance where I’ve owned the soundtrack for years before I finally saw the movie, I’m glad @warnerarchive finally made it available on DVD (or @warnerarchiveinstant if you’re not into the physical media thing). #vinyl#soundtrack#GeorgeCScott#JerryGoldsmith
