Was asking Kara why the penguins are surrounded by colorful water beads and she said "mama it's raining, there will be rainbow, and the rainbow will show on the water." Our 2.8 year old daughter explained the concept of reflection to me in her own words.
She would always notice how puddles and the sea (when we were at the beach) would reflect the color of the sky. And somehow, she remembered that rainbows come after the rain.
Kara imagined the colorful water because she has witnessed what a reflection is. Had I not read about Dr. Montessori's approach, I would probably be missing all these nuances on how a child learns about herself and everything that happens around her. Learning is a basic need for children, and during their early years they really absorb knowledge from the environment as if they were little sponges. This will happen as long as the surroundings provide them with sufficient stimuli.
Anyway, What I get to share are but snippets of all my conversations with Kara (im always working or in meetings) so I cherish all these tiny moments with her.
Btw, these water beads are from my sis and she spent P26 for 1,000 pieces each bag (not bad). I recommend that this only be played by children who don't mouth things anymore and that there is always someone watching them whenever they use these. #sensoryplay #sensorial #rainydays #indooractivity
