Making Monstera babies (the living and the stitched kind 😬). Somehow June is now less than a week away, which means time is ticking on the May Monstera pattern. If you're hoping to stitch this cutie up for yourself, don't wait too much long to snap it up in my Etsy shop before it's retired at the end of the month. (it's just 2 clicks away...link in my profile and then follow the next link to Etsy). Find all the details of what's included in each #skbdiy Pattern in my Etsy listings and check out my FAQs for other questions. Happy stitching!

Before and After #tbt :)

The season is over which means the dancers get some time to take a break, travel, or take on new projects. Newly appointed Principal Dancer @jenstahl.weitz has been busy taking classes at #SFBalletSchool students.

Day 2 of #21daysinmyartworld - 'lesson learned'. The most significant lesson I've learned about making art is to HONOUR THE CYCLES! Nnu doing so is the cause of more artist problems than almost anything else I've seen. Until I really understood it, it caused me a lot of angst too. Very few, if any, artists make art all the time. Apart from the fact that as humans we have our own cycles, as does the planet we live on, creativity has its own cycles too. If we try to push on through or berate ourselves for being lazy, procrastinating, not being a 'real' artist etc, we just intensify and prolong the pain of not creating. .

If we allow the cycles to follow their natural rhythm, the difference between procrastination and a creative quiet period becomes obvious. I've found a huge piece of being an artist is self kindness and patience. I'm not saying I always manage them, but we do have to stop this relentless self criticism. Art is one of the most joyful means we have of expressing ourselves; honouring and accepting the cycles - however inconvenient! - is one of the quickest routes to accessing that joy. <3
.
The other thing I've learned is that there's no way I'll be able to comment on every post without giving us eating, sleeping, and working for the next 21 days! Will do my best and please know I'm beyond delighted at the enthusiasm with which those of you joining the challenge have kicked things off. :) Onward!

Everyday that I step in front of my easel I'm nervous. Every single time! But after that initial anxiety passes and I'm just mixing and layering, that anxiety dissipates and I remember why I'm there.

Making is HARD and I'd be lying if I said that even one day passes, as an artist, that I'm like "yeah! Easy!" Nope. Never. You just figure it out and you keep getting better! (Btw, here's the many stages this little commission has taken in the past two weeks. Only a few more days to enjoy the Summer discount - May 29th gives you 15% off your own customized portrait! link in bio)

I was working with the alcohol inks and just had to take a photo to show what a mess I make of the bottles. The larger bottle of blending solution started as clear with a grey label and the white had a white label. My hands are also very inky. Having a great time, though! 🎨

This has been a stressful day with the government people stopping by to evaluate the damages in the basement and the main floor being overcrowded with stuff that belong in the basement. We just don't know where to put the stuff anymore. 😫 Baby is tired and so are we... So here are "Bubble Gum Kids", just to make us smile 😊

Close up on the #Marine that I worked on today. Was slow going for some reason. I blame the hot weather :-) .
