Decided, allbeit reluctantly, to unwrap a package of fragile things stored away from the wrath of #hurricaneirma. It's a matter of hours after Subtropical Storm Alberto formed off the Yucatan Peninsula. It is only a matter of days before the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season starts and brings with it the worry and wonder of what will come. A difficult choice needs to be made. Do I keep wrapped up, swaddled in protection and fear of losing more or do I open up, fill my chest with air and unpack? Timidly, I open the wrapped packages to reveal my history, the history of all of Irma's children. In the folds of the newspaper, I found the date marking time, and a warning cone foretelling change. My emotions started to get the better of me then in a flash my mind focused on that #littlebluehouse and memory refocused to a cool, sunny day in #Delft. It was a bustling square of people, things and the quaint houses so ubiquitous in #theNetherlands. A leaning house on the square cluttered with antiques caught my eyes. It called to me and my heart answered. There, I meant an old man, an antique himself, ensconced in a chair reading his newspaper surrounded by once loved and then abandoned. I found this little house Spuistraat 294 (it now hosts Restaurant d'Vijff Vlieghen - The Five Flies) in that shop and remember feeling hopeful and happy. In the moment, I decided, today will be like that day in Delft - happy and sunny - blue skies and perhaps a bit of #cheese.
