I should be honest here and admit that I'm an unapologetic @robzombieofficial fan. So I was excited to watch "31" tonight even though we've seen it at least a couple of times. Plus, I am thrilled to own the steelbook version, even if it's German. The collector cards are a nice touch! That all being said, I'll try to be fair, here.
The story is very basic: a group of carnival workers are travelling in an RV on Halloween in 1976, and are abducted on a roadside and forced to participate in a murderous and macabre game called "31" where they must survive 12 hours to earn their freedom.
The acting is good but Richard Brake absolutely steals the show in his 20 or so minutes on screen. He is positively diabolical and a joy to witness - a villain you hate to love. I could have done with less shaky-cam and would have preferred fewer quick-cuts. The other villains were all entertaining and some of the interior shots were beautiful.
While this may not be my favourite Zombie movie, I am always entertained by it and love the cartoonish baddies and the nods to the past. Speaking of which, the music is superb, as always, and he always uses a cast of actors that I'm thrilled to see on screen, so count me as a big fan! I can't wait for #3FromHell
