So, I haven't done a #Happy😊Hoarder post in a while, so I guess it's high time to put one up. This week's theme is "On the Road", and those Hoarders are looking for travel-related collections of souvenirs, momentos, and tchotchkes brought home. Well, here I have assembled some of the items purchased at the Parisien flea market during a trip to Paris, France in 2006. This was one of many highlights of the trip and luckily I had my in-home translator in tow to do some haggling for me in the local tongue. While there are some full-time, more permanent flea markets to the north of Paris that were interesting, this weekend-only affair that is south of the heart of Paris was more to my liking, with a wide ranging selection of antiques freshly brought in from the countryside. It required a significant Metro ride and then a walk to get to it, but it was worthwhile and we returned to our apartment happy with the spoils of our morning. Included here are some of the fun items we bought, including a couple brass and german silver horological measuring devices (both made in Paris), a thin ivory rule graduated in lignes, centimeters, and Paris inches, a sterling silver vase with a French hallmark, a 20-meter long steel surveyor's tape measure with brass handles, and lastly, one of my favorite antiques from the trip, a large crock labeled Moutarde Forte (strong mustard) with a French company's mark on the bottom. Getting all this (and more) home with us on the plane proved to be a challenge as we didn't trust the airline baggage handlers, so each piece was wrapped carefully and placed into a semi-hard shell carry-on bag. Of course, it was layered and of course, security couldn't tell what the heck was in that bag when they scanned it, so we pretty much had to unpack and unwrap ALL the items at airport security, then carefully repack it all. Luckily, everything made it safely home with no breakage. Swipe left for a couple extra pics of the Marché aux Puces (Market of Fleas 😊), including one of yours truly (markedly younger 😶), possibly qualifying as a very early #vacationdanselfie (though not technically a selfie 😶).
